Can your agent survive a lost reply?

Can your agent survive a lost reply? The first request has an effect the worker cannot see. Require an unknown branch and bounded reconciliation. Narration uses Eric's authorized AI voice clone. #EricFieldNotes

Full written post / accessibility read

Here is a useful disposable test. Let a mock control plane accept a placement change. Then drop the acknowledgement before the agent receives it. Watch whether the agent calls the move failed.

The obvious retry with a fresh operation key can launch another change. A successful request-before-commit test would never reveal this ambiguity.

Pause the agent, show the service operation record, and read the target state through an independent interface. The safe branch is hold and reconcile while the effect is pending.

Make lost acknowledgement after commit a repeatable fixture. Pass only when the agent preserves the operation ID, avoids a second side effect and reaches a verified state or named owner.

Four-beat scene transcript

1. Can your agent survive a lost reply?

Here is a useful disposable test. Let a mock control plane accept a placement change. Then drop the acknowledgement before the agent receives it. Watch whether the agent calls the move failed.

Visual: Inject loss after commit, not before dispatch.

2. A retry can be the failure.

The obvious retry with a fresh operation key can launch another change. A successful request-before-commit test would never reveal this ambiguity.

Visual: The first request has an effect the worker cannot see.

3. Reveal the protected record.

Pause the agent, show the service operation record, and read the target state through an independent interface. The safe branch is hold and reconcile while the effect is pending.

Visual: Read acceptance and effect separately.

4. Test the hard side of timeout.

Make lost acknowledgement after commit a repeatable fixture. Pass only when the agent preserves the operation ID, avoids a second side effect and reaches a verified state or named owner.

Visual: Require an unknown branch and bounded reconciliation.

The examples identified as illustrative or simulated are design probes, not reported incidents. Vendor specifications do not establish workload performance.
