The approved AI use case disappears.

The approved AI use case disappears. Export and fallback were never rehearsed. Ask for notice, evidence portability and approved fallback. #EricFieldNotes

Full written post / accessibility read

In this fictional procurement drill, a team builds report triage around one model service. Later, that service declines the task class under its policy. The team owns the prompts and dashboards, but not the route that finishes the case.

The team can download its tickets but not the decision evidence that connects each report to its outcome. It considers another model, then discovers the data agreement and task policy differ. A switch that looked simple in a slide deck is not an approved recovery path.

In a sandbox, force the provider adapter to refuse. Confirm the case remains open, source evidence is exportable, a named human can resolve it, and any alternate route passes task and data checks. Record rescue time and the oldest unresolved case.

Make continuity terms and a tested handoff part of the buying decision. Do this because access to a model is not a promise that every future version of your workflow will keep the same route.

Four-beat scene transcript

1. The approved AI use case disappears.

In this fictional procurement drill, a team builds report triage around one model service. Later, that service declines the task class under its policy. The team owns the prompts and dashboards, but not the route that finishes the case.

Visual: Can procurement tell operations what to do next?

2. The contract was for access, not continuity.

The team can download its tickets but not the decision evidence that connects each report to its outcome. It considers another model, then discovers the data agreement and task policy differ. A switch that looked simple in a slide deck is not an approved recovery path.

Visual: Export and fallback were never rehearsed.

3. Rehearse a disabled route.

In a sandbox, force the provider adapter to refuse. Confirm the case remains open, source evidence is exportable, a named human can resolve it, and any alternate route passes task and data checks. Record rescue time and the oldest unresolved case.

Visual: Try a representative case with the primary unavailable.

4. Procure an exit path before adoption.

Make continuity terms and a tested handoff part of the buying decision. Do this because access to a model is not a promise that every future version of your workflow will keep the same route.

Visual: Ask for notice, evidence portability and approved fallback.
