Full written post / accessible read

This is a simulated business case. A founder uses an agent to build a scheduling tool instead of paying a small subscription. The weekend prototype works. Six weeks later, customer meetings keep losing time to exception fixes and redeployments.

A timezone issue appears. The agent patches it, but now the founder must rerun reminders, check existing events, redeploy and ask which other time zones are wrong. That supervision can be rational for core IP. It is wasteful for a commodity calendar.

Write two columns. One is the maintained product's subscription, integration and export path. The other is the internal tool's owner hours, test harness, security updates and support load. Re-evaluate after real users arrive, not just after a polished demo.

Keep the agent for product differentiation, customer-specific workflow and integration glue you actually own. Pay for ordinary maintained utilities when they beat the full internal cost. Do this because a thousand half-baked substitutes can leave the business with less focus, not more leverage.
