Full written post / accessibility read
I take an architecture sketch that uses one agent protocol box. I ask three questions. How do tools get exposed. How does a product cancel a job. Where does the process get a kernel boundary. If one box answers all three, the sketch is lying about the seams.
Replace the single box with MCP, a UHP shaped job surface still marked draft, and a substrate row. Now a tools outage, a job cancel bug, and a shared kernel residual are different incidents. That is the point of the rename.
When a team says the protocol is done, ask whether they audited tool exposure, job lifecycle, or isolation. Untested coexistence claims between IDE harness plug-ins and product job APIs stay labeled untested.
You do not need a new product to name the layers. You need the architecture doc and the security review checklist to stop treating three contracts as one. That is the field test for this week.

Four-beat scene transcript
1. Try the one box test.
I take an architecture sketch that uses one agent protocol box. I ask three questions. How do tools get exposed. How does a product cancel a job. Where does the process get a kernel boundary. If one box answers all three, the sketch is lying about the seams.
Visual: If one label covers tools, jobs, and VMs, stop.
2. Rewrite with three rows.
Replace the single box with MCP, a UHP shaped job surface still marked draft, and a substrate row. Now a tools outage, a job cancel bug, and a shared kernel residual are different incidents. That is the point of the rename.
Visual: Each row gets its own failure mode.
3. Probe the blur.
When a team says the protocol is done, ask whether they audited tool exposure, job lifecycle, or isolation. Untested coexistence claims between IDE harness plug-ins and product job APIs stay labeled untested.
Visual: Ask which review is being skipped.
4. Keep the rename cheap.
You do not need a new product to name the layers. You need the architecture doc and the security review checklist to stop treating three contracts as one. That is the field test for this week.
Visual: Vocabulary is a control when it stops false reviews.
